Northern Ireland Trophy
The Northern Ireland Trophy was first introduced as an invitational event. It was created in order to increase the interest of the game in the birthplace of such snooker legends as Jackie Rea, Dennis Taylor, and Alex Higgins.
It is held in Higgins' home town, Belfast, at the Waterfront Hotel.
In 2006, the event gained World Ranking status for the first time.
