Non-BCS Teams Who Could make a BCS Bowl

5. Fresno State University

Just like last years battle against mighty USC, Pat Hill's take-on-anyone-anytime approach has the Bulldogs visiting LSU's Death Valley in the heart of the season. In order for FSU to crash the BCS party, they must beat LSU and Boise State. If they do, watch out. However, thats a big if.

4. Boise State University

The Broncos gotta to beat Pac-10 middling Oregon State if they hope to earn enough respect to reach the BCS. Getting Fresno State at home certainly helps. "They've got a schedule that gives them a chance to make a run," said Fresno State's Hill. However, they lack a hile profile game, which would give 'em the nod.

3. Texas Christian University

Because of the Frogs' preseason standing at 22, they could probably afford to lose a game early, though beating Texas Tech would really impress the voters, and beating BYU and Utah will be essential to winning their league.

2. University of Utah

Utah has a chance to put itself on the map right off the bat if it can knock off the less-experienced UCLA Bruins. Then, the season will likely swing on their rematch with TCU, which beat the Utes in overtime last season.

1. Northern Illinois University

It's actually quite simple. Northern Illinois must knock off one of the Big Ten heavyweights, Ohio State or Iowa, and win all its conference games. If they do, they'll be 12-1 with the big win neccessary. Led by All-American Tailback Garrett Wolfe, the Huskies could find themselves in a BCS game. Watch out Buckeyes, Garrett Wolfe might be running circles around you.

Fresno State has a tough schedule to worry about first, before they can get to the game at LSU. Oregon at home in the second game, Washington in Seattle for the third, and Colorado State at home for it's fourth game. Also, Hawai'i will be a big game, but since it is in Fresno, the Bulldogs should win.

This is assuming Notre Dame is a BCS school right? ;) Another school I like is Tulsa. They should be the best in C-USA, coming off of a Liberty Bowl win, with Paul Thompson (as well as 16 other starters) returns.

Well, they're not in a BCS conference, because they're not in a conference. But, considering the fact that a top 12 finish gives them a guaranteed BCS Bowl (when mid-majors have to finish top 6 to be guaranteed a BCS bowl), it's hard not to consider them a BCS team.

None of these teams will make a BCS Bowl. It is highly unlikely for a school from a non-"power" conference to ever make a BCS Bowl. The system is aligned against it. Is it unfair? Yes. But until BCS is scrapped, mid-Majors will remain out in the cold.

Actually, since the BCS has added an extra game, it is highly likely that a mid-major will make the cut this year. It'll be hard to keep at least one out with ten teams getting in.

Yes, it is likely. TCU would've been in last year, if there were 4 at large births.

No. It's UNlikely, as I said.

TCU looks great this year. If only Tomlinson were there this year.

I don't really know why you have Northern Illinois ranked number one. It seems to me that TCU is the most likely. They are starting the season in the top 25, which makes things a lot easier, and they have a schedule they can actually win. Texas Tech will probably have a down year this year, so that would give TCU a chance to win their only real challenge. Northern Illinois would make a BCS bowl if they beat Ohio State and Iowa, but that's like saying Rice is a BCS team if they knock off Texas. They won't beat Iowa and Ohio State.

BC$ This user thinks that College Football needs to dump the BCS in favor of post-season playoffs.

Can't help but think that Akron beat NIU TWICE last year. Wolfe can run for as many yards as he wants. Doesn't mean they are going to win.
