Nomar's Grand Slam

10
Vote

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Nomar Garciaparra got his first big hit as a Dodger yesterday, hitting a go-ahead grand slam in their game against the Houston Astros. The home run was Nomar's first on the season; he is 3-for-7 thus far in the 2006 campaign.
The grand slam came in the ninth inning off Houston reliever Brad Lidge, giving the Dodgers the come-from-behind win, 6-2 over Houston.

The homerun actually came off of Houston closer Brad Lidge. Takashi Saito is the LA reliever that picked up the win in relief.

Remember when Nomar was good? Jeter v. Nomar used to be a legitimate question, now its a joke.

Can I just say one thing about Brad Lidge? I keep hearing about how his slide started with Pujols' NLCS homer. But, Lidge wasn't on his game at all last year. His stats are very deceiving, and for those who didn't watch him during the regular season last year, they have no idea how early this started. On the surface, going 4-4 with 2.29 ERA and 42 saves in 46 chances is awfully good. But take a closer look. Last year he pitched 20 fewer innings than in 2004, but he allowed one more hit and just 7 fewer walks. Hitters had a .323 slugging percentage on him, up from .290 the year before, and they hit for a .294 average. Oh, he also had 8 wild pitches last year, against just 3 in 2004. This year he already has 2. He started to have trouble throwing his slider for strikes last year, and he's still struggling with it. The Astros need to figure out what to do with him until he manages to learn to throw strikes again.
