No running game in the SEC, Yeah RIGHT!

ESPN wrote a little blurb about the Georgia - Alabama game this week, and frankly, this should have had a little more than a blurb. It is questionable whether Stafford and the Dawgs have enough offensive confidence to step up against a formidable SEC opponent, IE. the whooping Bama threw down on Arkansas last weekend.
While the offense for Georgia have put up some points this season, they have not played anyone worth a darn. South Carolina really shut down the Georgia offensive and Stafford completed less than half his passes (19 of 144) for no touchdowns! I have been a long time fan of Stafford and I am willing to bet this kid, with a golden arm, should probably prove to be deadly at the next level, but let's see it at the college ranks.
I watched Stafford in high school; he basically tore apart every defense in the state of Texas and seemed to be a truly confident and fiery QB. At Georgia he has shown glimpses of success but no consistency. Can I point the finger at the two things I feel are responsible for this:
- There is no running game at Georgia! What! In the SEC no run game!
- Mark Ricks has Stafford throwing the ball 44 times in a game!
If there is ever anything that we can learn from watching SEC football, or football in general, you have to run run run run the ball in order to pass it. While I love The O'Brien, some of these great QB's who have won the award have done so with a formidable running attack in their backfield.
I am not saying great QB play and leadership do not win you games, they most certainly do, but unless you run an offense that has the protocol of Texas Tech or Hawaii...DO NOT throw the ball 44 times in an SEC battle!
