No Quarterback at USC has ever done this!!!!

by Billysellers

USC has been atop the college football specturm of interests since its inception, and the boys from Southern Cal are always front runners for the Heisman. In fact, 7 times the Heisman winner has been a member of a Trojan squad. Thats basically a Trojan every 10 years, but even more amazing is the fact that 3 of the last 5 have been from USC. I do understand the love affair with the Trojans, heck I love watching them play, but can't we all admit that they are all a little overhyped...and more importantly, so is the Heisman. I mean there has never been an O'Brien winner from SC!

I want to take this a step further, if the Heisman is such a great predictor of talent, why has the winner been the #1 draft pick only 3 times in the last 25 years??? - Thanks Blue Gray Sky. So just so we are all clear, The O'Brien has had the #1 draft pick 4 times, more than the Heisman. How about that!

There are even more interesting bits of information about this on The Blue Gray Sky. This guy is genius.

USC's Quarterback John David Booty has been atop the Heisman Hopeful and Davey O'Brien polls all season long. But in The O'Brien Fan Vote is 31st in voting. Maybe the fans see him for what he is, Booty is our Rex Grossman," "Booty = Deer in Headlights = Over rated" and "****official replace Booty thread****."  I just find it amazing that everyone was so ready to hand over the hardware to those guys at USC.

The Heisman has become more and more about the media and campaigns run than who the best player is, and that is why John David Booty was a preseason favorite, but with his poor performances this year (good by some standards) he will most certainly not become the first quarterback in the history of USC to win The O'Brien. Apparently the O'Brien people have it right and don't just give out their hardware to the best media campaign.

The O'Brien award has also only been around since 1981. Some of the names that won it (McPherson, Torretta, Detmer, Ward, Wuerffel, Hamilton, Weinke, Crouch, Ware, Bishop, White) were beneficiaries of a good system and a successful season allowing them to pad stats. None of those guys did a lick in the NFL.

Wasn't Bishop the back-up AHEAD of Tom Brady?

Yes he won the O'Brien in 2001, the year after Weinke and the year before Brad Banks of Iowa. Banks another CFLer last I checked.

eh, whatever. most of the awards given in college football make no sense. I'm not really interested in arguing about why TEBOW is #1 in the fan voting for this award. Get a life Florida.
