To quote Squidward Tentacles, neighbor of SpongeBob SquarePants:
"There's been something I've been meaning to say since the day I met you... Goodbye!"
It is with some sadness and no regret that today I must inform you of my retirement from ArmchairGM.com. This is not a joke. This is not a Michael Jordan 99.9% sure or a Junior Seau "I retire/tricked ya!". This is not Tiki Barber inspired or even some psychological freekout episode (although I am prone).
It is real
Manny Stiles will post no more articles and make no more comments (not even as an Anonymous Fanatic). This decision was a long time in the making. I have warned all of you since day one (June 20somethingth) that I had Charbonneau-istic qualities and that Article #100 (and the article starting with 'N') would be something special (thus the reason I have been posting "News" and "Questions" lately)
This decision was not made in haste. In fact, it has been a long time coming. Life has manny more challenges/opportunities ready for me than I can handle while spending as much time as I do on the 'chair. And believe me, I relish every moment I have spent on the 'chair. I have grown as a writer, as a freeky-wiki and most importantly as a sports fan because of ALL of you!
I have made this decision based on my increasing pursuit of real happiness. I am in the midst of planning a move to the Sonoran wilderness and setting forth the steps of pursuing my life dream to live in a house I will construct; (out of straw bale; seriously- it's GREAT, inexpensive and environmentally conscious building material) far away from a dependency on civilization's ridiculousness.
Increasing pressures from my current employer, expanding opportunities for my Salsa business, demands for increasing other business ventures and a lack of proper attention to my music production company can be 'blamed'. On top of that I am pursuing another dream of securing a series of book deals (I'll NEVER stop writing, afterall). Even though I am "Manny Stiles", my body cannot keep up with my mind and too many styles means something will suffer.
More importantly, the increasing need to provide financially, parentally, socially and entertainingly for my young children has helped make this decision a no-brainer. Life is more important than my obsession with sharing my sports opinions.
Don't worry about me, I'm not going away. Because of my fondness for the 'chair and disdain towards the 'accepted media', I'll still read the Armchair articles and vote + on the good ones, and the witty comments maybe even make the occasional edit (watch your talk pages!). But I won't be commenting in any form. I feel I've already commented 3,000+ times too manny!
I'll still post the very occasional article on my personal blogs throughout the upcoming weeks, (if you read my blog an feel the need to repost a possibly good article here, feel free!) but I must continue onward...
Just do me this favor: Keep the good articles/ideas/concepts/sports entertainment flowing and minimize/crush the general bullshit that denegrates the site. YOU are ArmchairGM.com, give more of YOURself, YOUR ideas, YOUR creativity and less of the same ole' same ole' a prospective reader/contributor can find everywhere else. Continue to make ArmchairGM the best and MY favorite sports website!
Continue to change for the better, continue to push aside your percieved inadequacies, continue to treat difficulties as opportunity and continue to grow. Everyone will benefit from it. In the words of the Dalai Lama: "Be the change you wish to see in the world" and you'll see the world change before your eyes...
I will miss the banter I shared but trust me, the Stiles brand of banter conitues with or without a keyboard!
Today, ....today... today....I consider myself....self....self.... a pretty lucky guy....guy...guy....
I can say I went out on top and before the game had passed me by... (#1 in articles, good luck trying to surpass my comment record)
I've gotta bounce!
Remember above all to have fun'! There are already too many serious moments in life; and if you're not having fun, what are you having?
be good, or failing that, at least be safe
Your hero, Manny Stiles
Peace to you and yours, I'm out!
