No Life Equals No Win as the Jets Fall Again

A lifeless game began even before the opening kickoff. With Fireman Ed sidelined and unable to attend games this season, the Jets have started the "Chant challenge", where one fan is captured on the big screen, attempting to lead the crowd in the "J-E-T-S" chant. They picked a young lady in a pink jersey and hat. She tried her very, very best, trying to lead in Ed's place, and very few responded. I guess that is what happens when you are attempting to root for a 1-6 football team.
But then again, the team didn't give a lot to be excited about today, as the Jets offense played with no life or emotion whatsoever. When you play a football game with the same enthusiasm as you show when going for a dental cleaning, it will show in the results as it did today. The first drive of the game, after the Bills went 10 minutes at a 3-0 lead, the Jets did move the football, with a 28 yard field goal by Mike Nugent tying the game at 3. They had a golden opportunity to get emotionally involved here, with a Darrelle Revis interception halfway through the second quarter ending a long Bills drive. But, the lackluster offensive play continued and they punted the ball away off the interception.
The Jets didn't really have a serious scoring opportunity when it mattered the rest of the game thanks to the lackluster offense. The only real chance they had moving into Bills territory at the end of the half was turned aside by a Leon Washington turnover.
Nothing from the offense was only helped by nothing from the Bills offense. The defense kept them in the game with it only 6-3 mid fourth quarter. An 85 yard TD pass to Lee Evans put some distance in the Bills lead at 13-3, which is where it ended.
Did the Clemens era begin tonight? It might have as he was brought in with just under 4 minutes remaining in the game, and he did open things up with some downfield passing. The comeback ended on a Terrence McGee interception, but Clemens was just trying to make something happen at this point. Not a major fault to him. The Jets had one more chance late, but Clemens ended that with another McGee interception in the endzone.
Bottom line today is this: The defense played very well, when you only give up 13 points in an NFL game, you have put your team in a great position to win. But when your offense plays with no emotion and no life, the results will show and they did today.
