Nick Novak
[edit] Biography
Nick Novak (Nicholas Ryan Novak) was born on August 21, 1981 in San Diego, California. After going to high school at Albemarle (VA), Novak attended the University of Maryland. Novak is the all-time leading scorer in ACC history and is tied for fifth all-time in NCAA history. He was the first and remains the only Maryland player to be awarded the Jim Tatum Award by the ACC as that conference's top senior student-athlete. Novak made his professional debut in the NFL in 2005 with the Washington Redskins. During his career he has played for the Washington Redskins (in 05 and 06), the Arizona Cardinals (05-06), the Chicago Bears (05 and 07 preseasons), the Cologne Centurions (allocated by the Bears to NFL Europe for that league's final season) and is currently a place-kicker with the Kansas City Chiefs. During his College and Professional career he has made a name for himself with clutch kicks in nationally televised games. He made some of the biggest kicks in Maryland football history during his career there (see game tying and winning kicks at Georgia Tech in 2001 and game-winning kicks at NC State in 2002 and 2003), and continued his heroic ways in the pros with a huge game-winner against the Seahawks in 2005, a game-winning extra point versus the Redskins and then a game-saving tackle on the ensuing kickoff in a season opening Monday Night game at Dallas in 2005, and finally, the famous "Hand of God" game-winner versus the Redskins in 2006 that was ranked by Redskins.com as the fourth greatest moment in Fedex Field history.
