A stomach punch, if you ask me. The Yanks were enjoying a 6-2 lead after Andy Pettite pitched 6 1/3 solid innings and Scott Proctor deaprted. The bullpen managed to blow the lead, highlighted by Mariano Rivera letting the tying and winning runs score in the bottom of the 8th. Joe said that he would not let Mo in earlier than the ninth during the regular season, but the baserunners Mike Myers and Luis Vizcaino allowed forced his hand.
Lost in all this: Alex Rodriguez hits two home runs to take the MLB lead with 12 on the year so far. Sadly, A-Rod flied out in the top of the ninth for the second out after running the count full.

Mariano Rivera (L, 1-2) is looking pretty shaky so far this season. He's blown both of his save opportunities this season, including last night against the Boston Red Sox (10-5, 1st Place AL East). Alex Rodriguez hit his 11th and 12th home runs of the year for the New York Yankees (8-7, 3rd Place AL East). Neither starter figured in the decision; Andy Pettitte pitched 6 1/3 strong, allowing only two runs on a home run to Jason Varitek, his first, while Curt Schilling struggled, giving up 5 runs on 8 hits, including the two home runs to A-Rod.
Coco Crisp continued to heat up, going 2-4, including a triple against Rivera which knocked in the tying run, and then scoring the go-ahead run in the 8th. Varitek and J.D. Drew both had 3 hits on the day. Besides Rodriguez, Jason Giambi and Johnny Damon also had RBIs for New York.
Notes... Rodriguez is two homers shy of Albert Pujols' record of 14 in the month of April... He is also one of two players in baseball to have recorded a hit in every game this season; the New York Mets' David Wright is the other... Something will have to give, as Josh Beckett has only given up one four-bagger all year.
Coming Up Next... The aforementioned Josh Beckett (3-0, 1.50) takes the mound for the Sox, against first-time starter Jeff Karstens (NR).
