If in 2004, the New York Mets brass had used common sense, Scott Kazmir would be flourishing in Flushing. The article goes on to say that the trade was an impetus of change within the organization that led to a fear of giving up prospects. This preposterous trade led to an overhaul of the entire orginization starting with the overpaying of Pedro Martinez and Carlos Beltran and giving sole control to GM Omar Minaya. So, had this trade not gone through the Mets could just as easily be the old crappy team + Scott Kazmir. Who knows, had the Mets not traded Kazmir, Lastings Milledge, David Wright and Jose Reyes could have been moved along. Hopefully in the long run there may be a silver lining.
The article goes on to talk about how Kazmir can't believe it's still talked about and how it's something he never wants to discuss. I would bet he would never consider signing with the Mets as a free-agent since they had zero faith in him and traded him for damaged goods. I'm sure any non-Mets fan are sick of hearing about this but it was a great article.
