Tom Glavine only went 4 1/3 innings, but the New York Mets bats remained hot as the they continue to distance themselves from the pack with a 9-7 win over the second place Philadelphia Phillies tonight. Glavine took a lead into the 5th inning, but was lifted for Chad Bradford who was terrific, ending that inning in a 4-4 tie. Then the floodgates opened. The Mets sent 11 men to the plate in the 6th inning scoring five runs to make the lead 9-4. A three run homer by David Dellucci, against Aaron Heilman made it interesting at the end, but Billy Wagner earned his 13th save, helped by a terrific double play initiated by David Wright in the 9th. The Mets have now won 6 in a row, 8 out of their last 10, and have extended their lead in the NL East to 7 1/2 games.

I disagree. The Phillies lost that game, the Mets didn't win (It still counts, relax, I'm not gonna gripe about it). Glavine didn't look that good. You can argue that the park is small, but Madson had to pitch in the same park too. Phils defense cost them the game. Its a big win for the Mets. Moreover, When does Eagles Training camp start?!

Buying championships hasn't worked for the Yankees for the past several years, it won't work for the mets this year either. This team isn't built for the postseason. Ony 2 starting pitchers, both of which old and will be questionable down the stretch. If they're smart, they'll unload Lastings Milledge for a starter at the deadline.

The team is completely built for the post-season. They have a great bull-pen, have tons of speed, balanced with power, can play small-ball and have a great 1/2 punch in the starting rotation.

Old pitchers

The Bullpen gave up 3 runs last night... They have reyes for speed, not tons...

However, buying has worked for the yankees, not lately, but it has...

they gave up 3 runs last night that doesn't mean their bullpen isn't good.

Reyes, Milledge, Wright, Beltran...all have speed. And the mets lead the NL in stolen bases...

Their bullpen is actually quite young -- sanchez, heilman, bell. Their starting rotation will be young by the end of the year with Soler and Pelfrey as the 4 and 5 starters. Hence why there is no reason to trade Milledge.

Glavine is over 40, Pedro is old but still strong. Beyond that don't act like they have real pitching. If you want to go into the postseason with Soler go ahead, after all there's always next year. If Minaya was smart, he;d make the first real deal of his tenure and get a frontline starter for Milledge. If Zito is out there, he has to make that trade. The Mets are a nice team that should make the playoffs, but with Pedro-Glavine-Zito... they're a world series contender.
