New York Giants offseason grades (thus far)

I thought it was only right to give my opinion on Big Blue's performance this offseason.

The Giants have revamped there secoundary and made some big moves so far by adding cornerbacks Sam Madison and R.W. McQuarters and by adding former Baltimore Ravens safety Will Demps. These moves should give the Giants a pretty strong secondary when compared to last year when they were basically dominated every game and got trampled by Steve Smith in the playoffs.

The Giants were not to keen about updating another position that seemed to be a weakpoint at the end of the season--most notably Linebacker. The Gaints recently added one of the premere linebackers in the offseason, LaVar Arrington, which should create some animosity when they play his former team and division rival the Washington Redskins. The Giants also added linebacker Brandon Short, which should add some depth in a depleted position on the Giants.

The Giants also added some depth at the defensive end posistion during the draft (as if they already didnt have enough) by adding Boston College standout Mathias Kiwanuka to their arsenal. Most likely, Kiwanuka--who appears to be Strahan's air apparent--will alternate with current starters Osi Umenyiora and Michael Strahan, who is getting up in age

The Giants also added a much need third reciver to there offense by grabbing a small, speedy, and compact Sinorice Moss who is the brother of current Redskin Santana Moss. Moss should add to the Giants reciving tandom of Plaxico Burress and Amani Toomer by becoming the third reliable reciver with some some speed. I think everyone can agree on one thing though, if Sinorice is anything like his brother he will be a great football player.

If i were to grade the Giants as of now i would give them a B+. While they could have added some more depth in the secondary, they have addressed many of the teams needs this offseason.

That's scary--leaving everything up to Eli. Remember the playoff game when he choked?

I think the expectatations about the Giants might be a little high. They are solid at the DE position and have a couple of good (if Lavar has anything left) LBs. They still have serious questions at the DT and the entire defensive backfield. The only player back there I like is Will Demps. Their defense could be very bad. Offensively you have to like what you see at the skill positions. Tiki is Tiki, Shockey may not be able to block but he is a legitimate threat. Burress is a nice big target. But rookie WRs typically don't contribute so I wonder how much help Moss will really be in the vertical passing attack. Plus, the NL East is going to be a war because talent wise because all the teams have 8-8 talent. All said, my only wish is that the Redskins finish deal last in the league because the Jets got their 2nd rd pick!!!

Offensively if everyone can stay healthy they have a tremendously balanced team on paper. The only thing missing was speed and Moss brings that to the table. As someone mentioned before, it's on Eli to take that next step, complete 60% of his passes and take the offense to an elite level. Defensively this team is still a big question mark to me. I give Accorsi credit for looking at his secondary saying they're just not very good and basically starting over. However, just because we brought in new players doesn't mean they will be any better. Sam Madison of 5 years ago was great. How much he has left in the tank remains to be seen. Can Lavar stay healthy?
