New York, get ready for the Zeke era

New York, just when you thought the story with the Knicks couldn't get much worse, it just might this coming week.

ESPN is reporting that the Knicks are looking to buy out the contract of Larry Brown (best. luck. ever.) and the likely replacement, drumroll please, Isiah Thomas, basketball mastermind.

So Zeke will take over a time that was in absolute freefall the entire season, and he will have a chance to become a New York legend. Just Like Mo Vaughn.

How does a guy do as bad as Isiah and get ADDITIONAL responsibility.

The Knicks are a predictable catastrophe in the making. Anyone who did not see this coming is a moron.

In further Knicksanity news, ESPN is rumoring that the Knickerbockers are going to offer one of their shoot-first "superstar" guards to the Bulls for Ben Gordon. Knowing full well that the Bulls would laugh at them, the Knicks may also (that is, on top of Starbury or Franchise) a future #1.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh.

Let's count how many things are wrong with this scenario... The Bulls, slated to have about $16 million in cap room this summer when Tim Thomas' albatross comes off the books, actually want to waste it on either Marbury, Francis, Crawford (or is he even "elite"?), or (Jalen) Rose, when they could keep Gordon and sign Mike James -- and probably get better production for cheaper? Furthermore, Isiah's going to package a number one pick in the deal. Again. Because, hey, what are they there for if not for trading? To quote Neil J. Bauman, "This is true lunacy!" But at least Isiah now has to deal with the mess he's made on the court. And remember how much Jalen loved him last time he was his coach? Seriously, 0-82 is not out of the question here.

I've been making fun of the Knicks for years, but ten times as much since Isiah took over. Everything he touches is ruined. He can never do anything right. How does he keep getting jobs?

D21 -- I think the idea is to get a guy like Francis, run him ragged, trade him for a player to take Gordon's place, and reap the otherwise free #1.

Ah, the old "pump up a guy's stock by giving him exorbitant minutes and shots" manuever. It just surprises me that Chicago's going to pull that ploy, especially with Gordon. He may have his flaws, but he's only been around for two seasons, he's a staggeringly effective shooter, and he's the only guy on the Bulls who averaged 20 pts/40 min. BTW, is the number one pick going to be lottery-protected? That could make all the difference on whether or not this deal makes sense for Chicago...
