Over at Baseball Reference, they have added a new tool to neutralize stats. On each player page, you can choose to transform the stats to a "neutral" environment. A neutral environment is one with an average of 4.63 runs/ game. Also, shortened-seasons are expanded to 162 games. As well as neutralizing, you can choose the run-scoring environment, the league, and the ballpark.
One of the ways in which this tool can be utilized would be to see how well players would have done in different ballparks. Here are a couple scenarios.
Monstrous Seasons in 2001 Coors
Barry Bonds
If Barry Bonds had played for the Rockies, instead of the Giants, in 2001, BaseballReference boosts his total from 73 to 89 homeruns. Also, he would have scored 173 runs and driven in 183 RBIs. If those aren't amazing enough, his line would look like .374/.565/.980.
Mark McGwire
If Mark McGwire had played his 1998 season in the 2001 version of Coors Field, his 70 homers would have jumped to 81. His runs scored would not have been as impressive as Bonds, with "only" 163, but he would have driven in an extra run with 184 RBIs. His line would be .331/.508/.834. The Coors-inflated OBP and SLG fall short of Bonds' real line in 2001. That's just how amazing 2001 was for Barry Bonds.
Babe Ruth
If Babe Ruth had played in 2001 Coors in 1927, he would have hit 71 homers. The home run record would have withstood Maris, McGwire and Sosa's assault before falling to Bonds. Check out this RBI total for Ruth: 206!
Ted Williams
If Ted Williams would have played in 2001 Coors Field in 1941, his .406 average would have been .434.
Hack Wilson
If Hack Wilson had played in 2001 Coors Field in 1930, his RBI total of 191 would have only increased to 198. 1930 was actually a higher scoring environment than 2001. The boost of playing in the high altitude would have closed the gap, but not much was added.
Well, I just found this tool about ten minutes ago and these are the first few seasons that came to mind. I highly recommend checking this out.
