Nellie Fox (Jacob Nelson Fox) was born on December 25, 1927 in St. Thomas, Pennsylvania. He made his Major League debut on June 8, 1947 for the Philadelphia Athletics. In 1949, his rookie year, he hit .255 with 0 home runs and 21 RBI. Fox played for the Philadelphia Athletics, Chicago White Sox, Houston Colt .45s and Houston Astros over the course of his 19 year career.

There is some disagreement on what was Nellie Fox's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1957, when he hit for a .317 average and knocked in 61 runs. However, others believe that it was 1954, when he hit for a .319 average.
