Neil Mathews (Neilson Murray Mathews) was born on September 13, 1893 in Chicago, Illinois. After going to high school at Hyde Park (Chicago, IL), Mathews attended the University of Pennsylvania. Mathews made his professional debut in the APFA in 1920 with the Chicago Tigers. He played for the Chicago Tigers for his entire 1 year career.
