Born on January 1, 1874 in Navasota, Texas, Ned Garvin (Virgil Lee Garvin) played for the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Orphans, Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox, Brooklyn Superbas and New York Highlanders over the course of his 7 year career. Garvin broke into the bigs on July 13, 1896 with the Philadelphia Phillies, and put up a 2.85 ERA in 199 innings pitched in 1899, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Ned Garvin's best season was 1903, when he posted a 3.08 ERA, won 15 games and struck out 154 batters.
