Tuesday evening saw Leicester City travel to Nottingham Forest to play a Carling Cup tie. At half time though Leicester City defender Clive Clarke suffered two heart failures. A defibrillator had to be used to treat the Republic of Ireland player. Leicester City and Nottingham Forest decided to abandon the match which is yet to be rescheduled. Clarke remains in the hospital and is under going tests and no release date from the hospital has been set.
Leicester City Chief Executive Tim Davies had this to say about the frightening incident, "When Clive went into the dressing-room he collapsed and was very seriously ill. This is the first time we are aware of anything happening to Clive. He was taken away in an ambulance to hospital and he did offer a few words in the ambulance. Our thoughts and prayers are with Clive and his family, we hope he makes a speedy recovery. I would like to say a big thank you to Nottingham Forest for dealing with the matter so fast and to [manager] Colin Calderwood, [chief executive] Mark Arthur and [chairman] Nigel Doughty for calling off the match so quickly."
Sevilla player Antonio Puerta collapsed on the field and recently passed away in a similar type of incident. Hopefully Clive Clarke makes a full recovery and can continue to play.
