Nba Refs?

We all know about the Tim Donaghy deal and how he bet on basketball games everything like that. Well one of the things that was reported on tv with this is that NBA refs don't make much money, and sometimes had to do other things in the offseason to get money. This thought was supposed to be supported by the scandal where refs would they downgrade their plane tickets and pocket the cash.
However this whole thought about the low salaries of the refs is insane and no longer valid based on some recent published reports. Tim Donaghy's salary for the 2006-2007 season was $260,000; now he was a veteran official and probably got more than the newcomers get. (this link shows you how much refs get paid http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=stein_marc&id=2947073)
Brand new refs get around $85,000 as well as the plane tickets to there game and room at the city your refing in. Now your telling me that making $85,000 in about 8 months is not making much money? Are you insane, if the refs are making less than like $50,000 than yah I'd say they are underpaid, but to say they are underpaid when you can easily live off $85,000 a year is wrong.
The only reason this guy had to fix games was because he gambled and lost; now maybe the nba should make a rule that doesn't allow people to gamble, because with $85,000 a year, refs should not have to worry about their financial security.
