According to sources, the New York Islanders have fired new General Manager Neil Smith. Smith, who led the Rangers to the Stanley Cup in 1994, was hired just last month by the Isles. So far, he has named Ted Nolan coach, overseen the draft, and signed free agents, including ex-Ranger Tom Poti. At this point, there is no word on why Smith was fired.
Update # 1 - The Islanders have just announced that former goalie Garth Snow will take over as GM.
