NLDS Preview

The NL has been exciting all season, and last night, there was just the seventh ever one game playoff.  Which ended with a controversial call, but, the Padres didn't deserve to win anyway, after they gave up a two-run lead in the bottom of the thirteenth, with none other than the best closer in MLB history on the mound.  Colorado won it 9-8, and won the NL Wild Card spot, as they will face the Phillies.  Here is my preview of the NL Division Series, which, by the way, starts tomorrow on TBS.

Teams

East- Phillies

Central- Cubs

West- Diamondbacks

wild card- Rockies

Matchups

Cubs versus Diamondbacks (best of 5)

Game 1: Zambrano v.s. Webb (at ARI)

-My Prediction: ARI

Game 2: Lilly v.s. Davis (at ARI)

-My Prediction: ARI

Game 3: Hernandez v.s. Hill (at CHC)

-My Prediction- ARI

Game 4: undecided (at CHC)

-My Prediction: N/A

Game 5: undecided (at ARI)

-My Prediction- N/A

  • Arizona is on fire, and I don't think that the Cubs, who are supposedly surseed, will stop them from going on to the ALCS.  Arizona has been hitting great, and pitching great too.  I really wish that all of you Cubs fans will get over the Steve Bartman thing, though.  I am not a Cubs fan, so maybe I don't know what it feels like to breakdown in the playoffs every year, but, damnit, stop always making that as an excuse.  No offense, but you guys are acting like little babies, you didn't see the Sox fans making up a bunch of excuses, and they got over their curse.  It would have been O.K. if you guys hadn't worn out the damn topic.  I am getting off topic, so anyway, Arizona is looking like the better team right now, and for now, Arizona will advance.  D'Backs. 3 games to 0.

Rockies versus Phillies

Game 1: Francis v.s. Hamels (at PHILLY)

-My Prediction: PHILLY

Game 2: undecided (at PHILLY)

-My Prediction: PHILLY

Game 3: undecided (at COL)

-My Prediction: PHILLY

Game 4: undecided (at COL)

-My Prediction: N/A

Game 5: undecided (at PHILLY)

-My Prediction: N/A

  • This is a no-brainer, the Phillies are the hottest team in baseball right now, and the wild card team is not going to end teir hot streak.  Philly has had great pitching, and hitting, they have two possble MVP's on their team, JRoll and Chase Utley, I think Rollins will be the NL MVP, and if not, then there's something wrong.  Phillies win big, and will easily sweep the Rockies, who, some believe shouldn't even be in the playoffs after the two controversial plays in the one-game playoffs between the Rockies, and Padres.  Philly. 3 games to 0.

I think the Phillies will play the Yankees in the WS, with the Yankees adding a 27th world series title to their trophy case, and a HUGE monkey will finally be lifted off Alex Rodriguez's back.  This has been a great year for Baseball, and I expect to see an even better playoffs this year.

Yeah, I guess being a Pirates fan, you wouldn't know what the playoffs are or how things go.

The Red Sox fans don't bitch and whine? Three names for you: Bill Buckner, Aaron Boone and Bucky Dent. Go mention them to a Red Sox fan and watch them punch your lights out.

The Diamondbacks are hitting good? Since when? This is a team that was outscored by 20 runs. They were 29th in the bigs in hitting, at .250, 26th in runs scored, and were 29thin on base percentage with a .321 mark.

They were 7th in team ERA (4.13).

The Cubs were 4th in team ERA (4.04), led the majors in Ks by the pitching staff (1211), 13th in team hitting (.271), 18th in runs (752), and 18th in OBP (.333). Yet of course, being a Suckos, I mean Buckos fan, you see it as a sweep.

At least be realistic when you make your predictions.

That's your big comeback? If you don't like it write your own?

What are you, 12?

If you took the time to LOOK at numbers, you would see that the Diamondbacks are not all that and a bag of goddamn chips like you try to project. They may win the series, who knows, that's why you play the games...but projecting Livan "Gopher Ball" Hernandez (11-11, 4.93 ERA, NL leading 247 hits allowed, WHIP of 1.595, 34 homers allowed, 2nd in NL, 79 walks, 7th in NL, 112 ER allowed, 4th in the NL) over Rich Hill (11-8, 3.92 ERA, 170 hits allowed in 195 innings, 1.195 WHIP, 183 K) at Wrigley is asinine.

I'm a Phillies fan, and even I don't think the Phillies are the hottest team. They are definitely hot, but the Rockies have won 14 of their last 15 to make the playoffs. No one is rolling more than them. But the Phils should be able to slow them down, and maybe stop them.

But, the Phillies have two MVP candidates, and have pretty solid pitching as well.

"The wild card team is not going to stop their hot streak." First of all, the Rox are on a bit of a hot streak of their own. Also, paid attention to the relative successes of Wild Card teams lately?
