NFL vs. NCAA

Tighty Whities or Boxers, Blondes or Brunettes, Beer: In a bottle or in a can, just some of the choices we are faced with on a daily basis. Simple right…For some yeah, for others no. Now we’re in mid-August and football season is right around the corner from kicking off for real on both levels. Speaking of tough choices there’s another one which is about to bitch slap us right in the face. That is what kind of guy are you? Never easy to answer….Am I a Saturday Pigskin Loving Dude or a Sunday Armchair Coach Potato? Or maybe I’m just a bi-slobberknocker lover who needs the best of both worlds to be satisfied?

So which is better…This is probably not the correct question to be asking. That’s like saying do I want Denny’s or Waffle House at 3 a.m.. Does it really matter. Okay, so then which is more enjoyable, either to watch on the boob tube at home, or renting an oxygen tank to climb the mountain until reaching ones seat in the LastRow. NFL or NCAA?

Showing up in RV’s five days before the game – Advantage NCAA

Tradition – Advantage NCAA

Hyping up Big-Time games – Advantage NCAA

Better Rivalries – Advantage NCAA

Football Tailgating – Advantage NCAA

Looking forward to the following weekend – Advantage Push

A weekend of partying & co-eds (depending on what state we’re in) – Advantage Push

Halftime Entertainment – Advantage NCAA

Cheerleaders (Especially in the bathroom, Carolina Panthers style) – Advantage NFL

Ticket Prices – Advantage Push (both too high)

Postgame festivities win or lose – Advantage NCAA

Playoff System – Advantage Definitely NFL

Watching fat, out of shape old guys patrolling the sidelines – Advantage NCAA

Better pay…What, legally or illegally? – Advantage NFL

National Championship or Super Bowl – Advantage NFL (Undebatable)!

More rewarding: A college degree or an NFL paycheck – Advantage NFL

Good Chance of seeing a wardrobe malfunction - Advantage Push (Depends on how many beers in & score of the game)

Football involving what else, but politics – Advantage NCAA (Sorry Miles Brand) Usage of the computer: BCS or Fantasy Football – Advantage NFL... GO Eaton Beavers,Pickle Pirates & Tasty Twinkies

Entertaining side shows…A cheerleading pyramid gone bad or runaway mascots on golf carts – Advantage Push

Now I know I’ve likely over looked a lot here, but what do you want, I’m doing this from the LastRow…Hard to see and breath this high up. Doesn’t take much to get light headed. Wonder if some food from Denny’s or Waffle House will help me focus better. When you spell it out like this isn’t it clear college football has a slightly better product…Just a damn shame while we’re fine tuning are weekly fantasy they are fine tuning the top two teams in the country. Now it’s time to let me know what I forgot, but as of now my calculations, the Final Score is: NCAA 9 – NFL 6….With 5 Push’s, if my math is correct? I never was a Mathematics Major in college. However, I must admit I’m bias to college football, although can be labeled a bi-slobberknocker lover…Nothing’s wrong with that.

Without playoffs and being loyal to my small liberal arts college means that NCAA will never beat the NFL.

Hands down NCAA football. College athletes aren't payed so they're playing out of pure love for the game as well as their love for the school. Unless of course they're toughing out the 3 years of college to get to the NFL. College games also offer better games more often than not. This debate also has to do w/ how good your favorite college team is compared to your favorite NFL team. Mine: Michigan or Detroit Lions...hmm...

How are ticket prices a push. NFL games a definitely higher priced than college games.

I guess I was going on my college team when thinking about this. To see a Notre Dame game you get raped because more likely than not one has to get tix on the black market

Yeah, but that would be the same with any team that people want to see. If I want to see a Patriots game, I have to pay a boat load of money, because they are always sold out.

One reason I prefer the NFL is in college so much of how good you are depends on your chosen non-conference opponents as well as weaklings within your conference. How would USC have faired the past few seasons if they had played in the SEC instead of the PAC-10. NCAA teams get many schedule breaks and only have 3-5 big games per year. In the NFL teams can lose almost any game. And the playoffs kill the bowl system. I might watch 8-10 bowl games out of 32, but I watch every second of every NFL playoff game.

My vote is still for college but it shant remain that way for much longer. I tend to loose interested when I loose my ability to relate to things. Much as I lost my interest in High School football about three years out of HS, I'll probably loose a lot of interest in college football the longer I've been out of college.

Yeah but high school sports don't really have quite the market that college sports do, in my opinion. You may stop caring about the MVNU Cougars over time but you can root for Ohio State without ever having gone there and there is no reason to ever stop. If anything, I have gravitated more and more towards the college game over the years. I think it's easier to relate to essentially rooting for your state rather than just rooting for a city you like. And nothing will ever change the fact that it's a purer version of the game.

I basically don't agree with almost any of your assumptions. It's different from city to city school to school. In my experience the NFL has the advantage over college in almost every important area there is.

I'd like an explaination of "More Meaningful Game" in the NFL. An 8-8 team can end up in the Super Bowl, if you lose two games (sometimes one!) in college you're screwed.

In my book NFL is about a 9.9 while college football is a 10.0. Don't get me wrong, I love the NFL, but in my mind nothing in the NFL can compare to a huge rivalry game in NCAA Football. The crowds are bigger, and if you want to win the title, you basically have to win every game. You don't get that type on intensity in the NFL until the playoffs, whereas that's how it is every week in the NCAAs.

As long as there's a BCS, I will have nothing to do with the travesty I've come to call college football.

I guess it all depends on what you're looking for... if you're just looking for which league has the better way to determine the true champ, then yes, the NFL is better obviously. However, watching just the games themselves (and not taking into accounts, bowls, BCS, etc.) then that's why I like the NCAA better.
