NFL to Make It Harder for Players to Use Uppers

The NFL will tighten its steroid policy by penalizing users of amphetamines and methamphetamines more harshly in 2007. If a player is caught using these "uppers," he will receive a four-game suspension, a second-time offense will result in an eight-game suspension, and a third offense will cost a season.
Players will be eligible for testing year-round. Interestingly, the penalties for "uppers" exceed penalties for the league's drug policy, which requires three offenses before the levying of a suspension.
