NFL and responsiblity together?

As I get ready for the druken orgy that apparently is Ohio State Football fandom ( thanks Holbrook, now go screw), the big bombshell today is Harrison’s suspension for using HGH. If you’re wondering how this will affect the Patriots and are looking for a break down of the Pats defense, go somewhere else. Thousands of places will talk about the roughly $400k he’s going to lose and how the Pats may have to start Meriweather, but I would like to propose a little different reaction.
I’m here to give a standing slow clap to Mr. Harrison. Not for using HGH, though honestly I think they should let everyone use it and be done with it (yes, that also stretches to other sports Mr. Bonds). But this quote from Harrison in the ESPN article just floored me:
> "I've made no excuses and I will not make excuses," Harrison said. "I sent the wrong message with my actions. This is a mistake and this is something that I've done."
What is that? An athlete taking full responsibility for his actions? This is almost unheard of.
Yes it would be better if he didn’t break the rules, that’s more impressive. But short of that, I like seeing athletes, and people in general, take responsibility. All too often we see athletes blaming someone else, “I was misquoted”, or flat out deny, see Palmeiro, Bonds, etc.
I’ve never been a Harrison fan. That hit on Rice many years ago was pretty sick and just something about him always hit me as being a dislikable guy. However, this morning there’s an added component of respect for the man.
To wrap it up, it is wrong to use HGH, b/c the rules say so. However I’m impressed with how Harrison has handled it thus far.
