NFL and Comcast: Combining to make people's blood boil

I read an article on Awful Announcing, that there is a possibility that the NFL Network may use the pay-per-view system.

Here's the report from AA.

"The idea/plan is that the NFL Network is heading the way of Pay Per View, and will look to make at least one key game a weekend purchasable to everyone with Comcast cable. It may also look to do this for the first round of the Playoffs as well."

Can you get any greedier than that? Unfortunately, it had to be Comcast cable because they had the nuts to yank it out of the digital package. If this is indeed officially takes action, I am one step closer to losing all intentions to watch the NFL. This is an absolute outrage to me, that the NFL responds to those of us with Comcast by making you give up more money.

You guys want a bold guarantee? I guarantee that the Super Bowl will be put on PPV. No matter what the ratings are, it may be permanent if it switches to PPV.

It is all about the money, and the greed for it. If they follow through with this, the NFL will overreach, and the sport will end up in the shape that baseball was in during the 1990's.

I am not liking the way the NFL has been over the past few years, and it's only getting worse.

We used to get NFL Network on Comcast, they just shut it off a few weeks ago. I'm pissed. Anyone else see America's Game? That show was fantastic.

The crappiest thing is that I don't live directly in Seattle, where they get Qwest and Comcast. So it's either take it or leave it with Comcast where I live.

The NFL is certainly not doing the best they can be doing on the tube.

Thats why I love Cox. They are in the sports section with ESPNU, NBA TV, ESPN News, ESPN Classic, FSNSoccer, Outdoor Network, Versus, and Speed. I think its more of Comcast just not wanting to have to pay for programing people desire while they raise your rates twice a year. They are playing the same game with the Big 10 Network although people arent exactly crying over that loss.

Some other cable/satellite provider needs to bring an antitrust suit, pronto. This is getting ridiculous.

The problems with cable companies only starts with the NFL Network. The legal monopolies they have in many regions of this country lead to overpaying by customers. Even when multiple companies are in the same territory, the oligopoly reigns supreme, and it's difficult to find two cable companies that differ very much from each other.

I hate the fact that I really only want about 20 to 25 channels, yet I have to pay for about 250 because they're all in different packages.

The NFL seems perfect for network and cable television. There are countless pauses and timeouts that are ideal for commercial interruption. None of the action is missed or even delayed, and these breaks can be counted on to occur at regular intervals. Football almost seems designed for television. Putting it on a pay-per-view basis is a good way to alienate fans, prevent new fans from becoming fans, piss off your fan base, make yourself look greedy, and lose out on guaranteed money from network contracts.

The Super Bowl already makes far too much money on one of the major networks for anyone to even think about moving it.

The NFL is a bunch of capitalistic pigs shoving communism down our throats for a tidy profit... Long live the ___(insert your Home Town's Team's color scheme here)___!!! Bring back the 250 lb lineman!

that's another issue the NFL should address... 350 lb lineman is not healthy and there should be a restriction on that. It's as detrimental to players health as steroids, if not more so.

I have the Comcast sports digital package and I still get the NFL network, not that I watch it. I am still hoping that at some point Setanta gets included in this package but not holding my breath.
