M.Smith's Week 8 NFL Predictions
Recap Game Pick - Giants over Cowboys 27-14. Actual - Giants over Cowboys 36-22.
Surprise Alert - Bills over Patriots. Actual - Game was never in doubt as the Patriots rolled to 28-6 victory. Should have gone with Houston, hah.
Game Pick - Indianapolis Colts at Denver Broncos
The Broncos defense is sick. Absolutely sick. Other teams may get more credit (Ravens, Bears), but this unit may just be the best in the league. Led by tackle mongors Al Wilson and Ian Gold, as well as the best corner in the NFL Champ Bailey, Denver has the #1 scoring defense in the league. The offense is not much to speak of however, coming in dead last in points scored. Jake Plummer has a QB rating in the low 60's, but they are fourth in league in rush yards. With wins over the Patriots and Ravens, they've proven their ability. With a time-munching offense and a suffocating D, they are apt to win lots of close games.
The colts are the colts. An offensive jugernaut with Peyton Manning leading the way. Coming in undefeated, but on the road in Denver. The defense has been the suprise, ranking 12th in scoring D, but also allowing the most rushing yards in the league. The Colts front four are weak, but their pass and redzone D has been stingy. A dominant win over Washington brings in much confidence.
Strength versus weakness. The Broncos will run all day while being jacked up with their home crowd. Colts will have trouble against their D with Bailey locking down Harrison. A close game, but Broncos jump out early and grind clock for a 21-17 victory
Surprise Alert - Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Giants
I can't belive I'm going to say it, the Bucs are on F-I-R-E. A one-point win over the Bengals and a two-point win over the Eagles. Two weeks, two playoff caliber wins, impressive. Six games in and they haven't played a team with a losing record, talk about murder to start the season. I see no reason why they can't keep the momentum and stellar D going against yet another good team.
That said, the Giants are coming off an impressive monday-night road win. But they will have a short week to prepare, Eli Manning is hit or miss, and it will be hard not to let down against a team that has a 2-4 record blinking in your face.
