NFL WR Enters Treatment Facility

12
Vote

Vikings wide receiver Koren Robinson has decided to voluntarily enter an alcohol rehab facility. Despite the fact that he has not violated the league's substance abuse policy. "Was Koren Robinson drinking? No. Was Koren Robinson forced by the NFL or the Vikings to go? No. Most recovering alcoholics seek treatment through the years. He's just being more proactive than in the past," his agent, Alvin Keels told the Minneapolis Star Tribune. In 2004, Robinson was suspended 4 games for violating the league's substance abuse policy and in 2005, Robinson was released by the Seattle Seahawks following an arrest for drunken driving.

Good for him. It's good to see someone trying to fix up their act today instead of ruin their careers.

Normally I agree, but this is a relapse...third or forth. I agree that its good he got help but at what point is he going to actually get it and stop drinking...

I'm going to play devils advocate here but... Is that an excuse? Like I said, I'm glad to see he's trying to clean himself up...again...but at what point does he not deserve another chance...4th time, 5th, 6th...This goes to show you how truly talented he is because he still gets on a team after crap like this. Imagine if he was clean...

I agree that this would normally be the case (i.e. Ricky Williams) but Robinson is going to counseling of his own free will without violating any drug policy recently. I think it's a good career move that shows that he really does want to recover. Remember Cris Carter in his early days?

I do remember CC in the early days...he was an eagle too! Time will tell if this is fair, but Robinson has been in the league for a little while, he should be good to go. Hes a lot more talented than he gets credit for, but part of it is his own fault...

is it an excuse saying stopping drinking with an alcohol problem isn't easy?

This may not be a relapse. Maybe he is going into counseling to keep himself clean -- a preemptive strike, if you will.

You forget that once you are an alcoholic, you are always an alcoholic. You can't just quit. The smell of alcohol makes people want to start up again. It's really not that easy. Apparently it wasn't a relapse just that Koren wanted to make sure that he didnt resort to drinking again during the grueling NFL season. If that's true, then I say good for him.
