NFL Reinstates Ricky Williams

20

by Tylersalt

ESPN.com is reporting that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has reinstated former Miami Dolphins and New Orleans Saints running back Ricky Williams after an 18-month suspension.  It is unclear at this point whether he will be able to rejoin the Dolphins -- Miami will be granted a temporary roster exemption in order to handle the situation.

So, you're an NFL GM/Coach, either from the Dolphins or another team.  Do you welcome Mr. Williams with open arms?  What does it depend upon?  What kind of contract would you offer him?  How do you handle this situation?

If I'm the Dolphins, what choice do I have but to keep him? We're losing without him.

That is to say, it can't get any worse.

I agree. Espcially with Ronnie Brown going down, it can;t hurt to give him a shot. Jessie Chatman's playing really well for Miami, but they could certainly use the depth.

The Dolphins have to keep them. They have no weapons on offense, and even a smaller, slower, more subdued Williams has to be better than what they have. Also, realisitcally what type of trade bait is Williams? Are there really teams knocking down the door to get at him?

They could get a 4th rounder for him, or he may be a throw in guy to move up in the draft come april: Ricky and my 3rd rounder for your 2nd round pick...something like that. They should play him out of desperation. It's win-win. If he sucks, does he hurt the team? No if he's decent, does he help your team or get other teams interested? Yes.

Seriously? I want to know, who is looking out the window saying, Ricky Williams is a good pick up to add to my team

No, but apparently John Beck might be able to, and we'll find out next week.

Does Williams want to play for the Dolphins again? I don't know if he's come out publically... about where he stands on the issue, but he might just want to stay in Canada, or play for another team, or anything.

I think they should toss him a contract similar to the one NO gave him in that it is based on performance. It's not to say he won't do a decent job, but when money is the underlining incentive, perhaps he'll work just a LIL bit harder.

They should have Ricky play defensive back. Why? I dunno, it'd just me amusing to my twisted mind. In all seriousness though, depends how badly the Dolphins want the #1 pick in the draft.

That's a very good point. If Ricky is in any kind of game shape, he may help them accidentally win a game or two!

Dolphins have nothing to lose letting Rickey play. They might even accidentally win a game.

If the dolphins don't take a chance with him, someone will. I've watched too much prof sports to think his career is done. Even Packman will get a 2nd chance somewhere.

Congrats for Ricky. Now in addition to running, he can give the entire team pot for a lifetime once they complete this nightmare.

Maybe this year, the '72 Dolphins will share a toke with Ricky instead of champaign. More importantly, ArmchairGM really needs to set up a pool on when he gets busted (again) for smoking pot.

If the Dolphins don't resign him, {which would be retarded}, then the Green Bay Packers could certainly use his services. Being on a winning team will hopefully keep him focused, but of course this is Ricky Williams that we are talking about.
