Here’s a short list of what I’m calling the “Best Anticipation Days of the Year.”
1. Christmas Eve – Even when you get older and it’s lost most of the luster and magic, Christmas Eve still tops the list. So what if your belief in Santa Claus is a thing of the past and you could pretty much name every single gift you’ll receive tomorrow? Nothing can beat that feeling of anticipation you get on the night before Christmas morning.
2. Any time you’re about to hook up with a really hot chick – Unlike Christmas Eve, you most likely will not have an entire day to prepare for this one. The plus side: this day can happen more than once a year. The negative: You can do something completely inane or stick your foot in your mouth and blow your chance in a matter of seconds. Santa would never back out on you like that. I wasn’t even that good last year, and Old Saint Nick still came through for me on the big day.
3. The day before the NCAA Tournament starts – Oh, March Madness. How sweet it is. You’ve analyzed every 8-9 and 7-10 match-up. You’ve filled out and revised your bracket for the umpteenth time. You’re certain this is the year when you will finally correctly pick all 63 games. Then a #14 knocks off a 3-seed whom you had going all the way to the Final Four, and you’re left cursing yourself, SE Missouri State and the jackass who invented brackets in the first place. But those few precious hours, when your bracket was perfect, before any of those big red X ’s filled your page … now that was pure bliss.
4. The day before the National Football League kicks off its season. That day, my friends, is today. Although you could argue that since Sunday brings the first full slate of games, Saturday is technically a better “anticipation day.” Nonetheless, I honor this great day in waiting impatiently and looking forward to glorious things with your 2007 NFL Preview and Predictions.
