NFL Preview Show Extravaganza: The MinnEsota Vikings

by Oh No Romo

As seen on Oh No Romo!

It's time to head up to the Land of 10,000 Lakes, as we do a preview on the Minnesota Vikings (You Call Dat a chair).

The Minnesota Vikings, led by second year Head Coach, Brad Childress, went 6-10 last season, finishing in third place.

The Vikings drafted Adrian Peterson with the seventh pick in this year's draft. They will play such teams as the Eagles, the Cowboys, the Raiders, the 49ers and the Falcons.

Let's do some questions (Yearbook style):

  1. Tarvaris Jackson will lead the League in: Most interceptions
  2. Adrian Peterson will: Not be the next Robert Smith, but will still be a stud for all defenses to deal with
  3. First thoughts of Brad Childress: That man has the best moustache in the NFL (Cowher retired, Fisher has a beard)
  4. In 2007, Brooks Bollinger will: Go into the Real Estate business (In other words, sell his home in Minnesota and go elsewhere to be a back-up player)
  5. Top three coolest names currently on team or trying out: Erasmus James, Aundrae Allison and Vinny Ciurciu (Kenechi Udeze receives honorable mention)
  6. In 2007, Chad Greenway will: Explode on to the scene and be one of the top LB's in the NFC North
  7. Chester Taylor will: Struggle whlie Peterson shines
  8. The 'Party Boat Scandal' is: Officially gone, but forever in our hearts
  9. Kiss song that best describes the team: Rock And Roll All Nite (AND PARTEY EVEREE DAY)
  10. In 2007, the Vikings will: Go 7-9 and miss the playoffs.

You drive us wild, we'll drive you CRAZEEEE

Nos

It's going to be an interesting year with lots and lots of young players... a lot of things depend on the development of Tarvaris Jackson. I'm optimistic.

After viewing your synopsis of the Vikes' schedule, I think that they will win at least 10 games. In all seriousness, I agree that Peterson will make a good first impression, but I think he'll actually have a positive effect on Chester. When his carries were limited in Baltimore, he was a consistent 4.5 ypc guy. Last year, his effectiveness diminished over the course of the season as Childress kept using him as a battering ram 30 times a game. A two-back system will really do Chester some good.

You think they will win 10 games in the same division as the Bears, Packers and let's not forget the Lions?

"Chester Taylor will: Struggle whlie Peterson shines"

Wrong, Peterson is a rookie that gets injured every year in college. Put him in a league with professionals looking to do more damage? You've got yourself the football version of Mark Prior.

Chester Taylor is 27 years old, the prime age for any athlete. With a new QB, look for the Vikings to run the ball more often. The Minnesota situation is like the Saints situation last year. Sure Bush got more attention but it was McAllister who did the work.

The Vikings won't run the ball more than they pass. The Viking's run the West Coast offense, which is passing...a lot. The most Childress could possibly run would be around 45%.

The Vikings have all of the potential to win 12 games this year, and go deep into the playoffs. The questions remain, however. 1, how will they use this potential (e.g. try to contend, rebuild for '08), 2, Tarvaris Jackson.

ESPN thinks that Brooks Bollinger has starter potential. They say that if Jackson struggles through preseason Childress will start Bollinger. Bollinger isn't all that strong, but is smart.

Tarvaris Jackson has all the potential to be the next Micheal Vick, minus the dogs. Viking fans should look forward to contending from '09 on.

No he's no where near the potential of Mike Vick. I would be pissed if turned into Vick. Vick can't pass or read a defense to save his life. Tarvaris does have good enough mobolity to prolong plays and occasionally scramble for positive yards, but make no mistake, he's going to be a pass first QB. I concede that he'll be up and down- although I'd be suprised if Favre doesn't beat him out for most interceptions this year. I get so sick of people looking at a black quarterback and automatically thinking he can only run and wants to be Vick.
