NFL Pick 'Em Contest
With the NFL season nearing, it's that time of the year where many people have office pools, and then proceed to finish last. Well....starting September, I will most likely (as in 99%) run an NFL pick 'em contest with no need to register for anything. I keep score at home, and post everyone's results no later than Tuesday evening. The style of the contest is that I pick 4 random games from the upcoming week (no biases needed), and the 1 Monday Night game. Then the fun begins. Here are the rules for this contest:
1. For each game you pick correctly, that's 1 point.
2. For each game you pick incorrectly, you lose a point.
3. In the unlikely event that there is a tie, no points are given.
4. In every Monday Night Football game, you each predict the combined number of points scored from the 2 teams. The person that is closest to it (or dead on), gets 3 points. However, if you pick the game wrong (while winning the point total game), your total drops to 2 points. You pick the game right, you get 4 points.
5. In the event that multiple users both pick the same amount of points for the Monday Night game (and were both the closest), the person with the most points gathered from Sunday wins the tiebreaker. In the event that multiple users were tied for closest, and tied for points from Sunday, then those users get 3 points.
6. You gain an extra 4 points in the event you pick every game correctly for that specific week (except for the playoffs).
7. During the playoffs, every correctly picked game will increase your point total by 2 points. However, you lose 2 if you pick incorrectly. The last game listed will be the special point total guessing game, where the point value is still the same.
8. Super Bowl 42 will be worth 5 points win or lose.
9. There are no real prizes other than gifts that the Chair already has. This is purely for bragging rights, and dignity.
10. Cutoff time for picks will be the night before the Sunday action kicks off. However, with the Thursday/Sunday matchup in 2 weeks, I'll allow users to pick the Thursday game first, and then have until Saturday to pick the rest of the games.
11. There will be 14 AGM members, and myself, to make it a 15 team league. So the first 14 that say "I'm in", join in.
