What is Goodell really doing and where is the Players Union?

I understand how Goodell came in and wanted to show everyone that he means business with the players and the code of conduct. He has acted swiftly and stern. But is his justice blind? Are his penalties the same across the board? I think not. Every situation is handled in a different way.

Jared Allen, DE for the Chiefs, was initially suspended 4 games by Goddell for 2 DUI's. His suspension was later reduced to 2 games. On the opposite side of the coin you have Odell Thurman, Bengals MB and former rookie standout, who is working on his 2nd year long suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy (missed drug test and DUI). There were talks of an alleged fight during his 2006 suspension but no charges were ever filed. After the first suspension Odell reapplied to enter the league again and Goddell sent him home for another year. Now, I understand cleaning up the league but why treat two players so differently.

The recent talk is about Belichick and his suspension. He is not given any time off just really a fine and the team is penalized with the fine and loss of a 1st round pick. Wade Wilson (Cowboys assistant coach) on the other hand has been given 5 games, without pay, for using HGH. Wilson has diabetes and ED (don't act like you don't know what the ED stands for) and uses the supplement for that...it is for personal use. You almost think that the suspensions should flip-flop. Belichick was going after a competitive advantage, something that may possibly alter games, and he doesn't have to miss a game.

I just want Goodell to be fair and consistent...let that smoking, iron fist cool down. But the real question need to be answered is where is the players union in all of this? I have not heard Gene Upshaw fight one suspension or fight on the behalf of anyone. Chris Henry, Odell Thurman, Mike Vick, Tank Johnson, Jared Allen, and the rest of the players to go before Goodell still should have their union backing them no matter what they did. You think the baseball union would just let Bud Selig enforce penalties on players depending how he felt that day?

The Best 5 Teamer Known to Man - NFL Week 2

1. Cincinnati (-7) @ Cleveland This is a lot of points for someone on the road but the last 3 of the last 4 times the Bengals have played the Browns they have won by more than a touchdown. New QB for the Browns also is not going to help... Bengals -7

2. Indianapolis @ Tennessee (+7) Indy and the Titans split last year and the difference between both games was 4 points. The AFC South games are usually pretty tight and I think this goes down to the end... Titans + 7

3. Atlanta (+10 1/2) @ Jacksonville The Jaguar offense is not looking good enough to win this big and they run the ball more often after only 16 carries between Drew and Taylor last week. The Falcons will keep it on the ground and should be able to pick up some yardage just as the Titans ran for over 200 on the Jags week 1. This is going to a slow, low scoring game... Falcons +10 1/2

4. New York Jets (+10) @ Baltimore Please...I wouldn't take the Ravens spotting any team in the NFL 10 points right now. The D is still nasty but their offense made a middle of the road Cincinnati Defense look like superstars last week. There o-line has been exposed and teams will follow the Bengals game plan last week...blitz, blitz, blitz.... Jets + 10

5. New Orleans (-4) @ Tampa Bay Last year in Tampa the Saints were able to beat the Bucs 31-14. I think they come out mad after the opening day blowout to the Colts... Saints -4

I think that you might be wrong on the NYJ/Balt game only because whether they want o admit it or not, the Jets might have been distracted this week with the whole scandal thing and Baltimore is lick their lips with a possible unproven QB at the helm. The D will probably make up the entire scoring box score and might beat the Jets by more than two TDs.

You may be right...the 10 points seem like a trap and Pennington is almost a lock not to play, which will mean more turnovers.
