There have been many surprises, and disappointments in the NFL draft so far, many of them being in the 1st round. Of course, JaMarcus Russell went number 1 to the Oakland Raiders, everyone knew that. Then, the Lions went with whom many thought was the most talented in the draft, Calvin Johnson, which was a risk because the past two years Matt Millen picked a WR number 1 overall, and both times they were busts. But, not this time, he will become an immediate impact on the field, and should be the lions number 2 reciever next to Roy Williams, who is a great reciever. With the 3rd pick of the 07 draft the browns passed on Notre Dame QB Brady Quinn, which was a surprise to many people. Here are the rest of the top ten, and the winners and losers of the 1st round:
4. Buccaneers- Gaines Adams, DE, Clemson- Good pick, with Adams on one side and Simeon Rice on the other, many QB's will be watching their backs, and their front, and this defensive line is now much improved. He is also an immediate impact, as long as he can get around the big Offensive Tackles in the NFL.
5. Arizona- Levi Brown, OT, Penn State- On offense, all the cardinals need is an offensive line. They have a young, and improving Matt Leinart at QB, along with a duo of pro bpwl recievers, Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin, and a pro bowl RB Edgerrin James. New head Ken Whisenhunt, would love to have a good O-line to protect Leinart, good pick Ken.
6. Washington-LaRon Landry, S, LSU- The redskins secondary is exceptional, they may have lost S Adam Archuleta, but they still have a hard-hitting S in Sean Taylor, even though he has behavior problems. They also have added in free agency S Omar Stoutmire, and they have re-untied with CB Fred Smoot, and when you add Landry, you have one heck of a secondary. But If I were the Redskins GM I definitley would have drafted a LB, or D-lineman, like say, Patrick Willis, or Amobi Okoye, but they still got a good player.
7. Minnesota-Adrian Peterson, RB, Oklahoma- Great player, bad pick. Yes its tempting to pick an Adrian Peterson when hes available, but they dont need much help in the backfield, I thought they shouldve drafted a Reciever to help out young QB Tavaris Jackson, or maybe even a defender. But still, the vikings backfield will certainly be better this year with Peterson in there, so maybe the Vikes did that to take the ball away from Jackson, and make him a little more comfortable on 2nd down.
8. Atlanta-Jammal Anderson, DE, Arkansas- After losing Patrick Kerney, the Falcons need someone to take his place, the DE John Abraham has been injury-prone the past couple of years, the falcons need help on defense anyways.
9. Miami-Ted Ginn Jr., WR, Ohio State- Nobody liked the pick, none of the dolphins fans anyway. I can see why they went for a WR, but they couldve at least gotten someone like Dwayne Jarrett or Robert Meachem, maybe a Sidney Rice, but why Ted Ginn Jr? Nobody knew, and I guess we'll never find out, oh well, sucks for the dolphins fans.
10. Houston- Amobi Okoye, DT, Louisville- Maybe not this year, but in a couple of years the Texans D-line will be awesome. After drafting DE Mario Williams number1 overall last year, and DT Amobi Okoye number 10 this year, you just wait a couple of years, you'll be surprised.
Winner: Cleveland- Obviously, they added to there O-line With Joe Thomas (#3), as they passed on QB Brady Quinn, but then got to draft him #22 after trading up. Big win there, they now have a QB to backup Charlie Frye in case things go bad.
Loser: Miami- Like I said earlier, bad choiceof WR in the #9 spot, and all the dolphins fans booed HC Cam Cameron, well, it was a bad pick, that would be why. Stupid Cam Cameron.
