It is Omar here again to take another stab at finishing what I started with my last article. I'm sorry for the article coming in bits and pieces but I haven't had that much free time lately. Also I'm again sorry for the lack of wikipeia links on my articles, if someone would send me a message and expalin how to place them in there that would be great. Well we left off with Houston, so lets get started again with San Fran.
San Francisco 49er's: A Patrick Willis at 11 was a nice solid picks, quite honestly this was one of my favorite players in the draft for his toughness and hard nosed attitude. I don't care what position they play, tough players coming out of college always seem to make it in the pros, whether it be at skill positions (hello? Brett Favre, or Hines Ward) or any of the other positions on the field. The lack of a second rounder hurt them, but I like the pick up of Jason Hill who is as good of a wideout as you can find that late in the draft. All in all a good draft for a team that was already pretty darn good. Don't let the fact that this team picked 11 this year fool you. This team WILL win the NFC West this year.
Buffalo Bills: A Buffalo always seems to reach, particularly in the first round (Donte Whitner, John McCargo) yet the picks always seem to work out for Buffalo. While I was mad at them for taking the player that had Packers written all over him, (Marshayn Lynch) I still feel he was a great pick and should actually be the best running back out of this draft (yes, including Adrian Peterson). Also picking up Paul Poslunzly in the 2nd will be the steal of the draft, not Quinn, not Michael Bush, Poslunzly in the second was an absolute gem. All in all Buffalo drafted well as usual and is well on their way to building a contender.
St. Louis Rams: B Love Adam Carriker, he will become Jim Hasslet's favorite player very quickly. Yet the pick up of Brian Leonard confuses me. Granted Scott Linehan is a brilliant offensive mind, and if anyone could fins use for this guy, he could; but still I just don't see Leonard as a productive player. I also feel the Rams could have adressed more pressing needs rather than RB/FB/H-back or whatever else Leonard is classified as. Was it as much of a reach as Kevin Kolb or Ted Ginn, no but still they could have traded down and still gotten him. All in all, I still think the Rams did a good job, and they should be very competitive in a wide-open NFC West next year.
New York Jets: C Revis was quite a reach at this spot, the fact that they traded up for him is mind-boggling. Also, I was not as high as many on David Harris, I felt that he played poorly against Ohio State and was exposed at times in the passing game. I also feel having Lamar Woodley and Alan Branch in front of him made him appear much better than he actually was. Also in my book, passing of Quinn, especially given their QB situation, baffled me. All in all the Jets had a slightly above average draft, hence the grade they recieved.
Will finish in next segment, once again I apologize immensly, but for sure in the third part I will get the rest of the teams.
