The first five weeks have been exciting for the NFL so far. With many surprises, upsets, major injuries, last second wins, as well as a few fourth quarter comebacks. The Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, and Dallas Cowboys are the only three teams that haven't lost yet, with the Miami Dolphins, New Orleans Saints, and St. Louis Rams haven't won a single game yet. Many teams have surprised me, and many have disappointed. Here is my top five teams so far in the '07 season.
Power Rankings (top 5)
1. New England Patriots (5-0)- There is no stopping New England right now, and they will beat the 5-0 Dallas Cowboys this Sunday to improve their possible record-setting season. Many are thinking a 16-0 season, but no, they are the best in the NFL, but not good enough to go 16-0. NE's offense is number 2 in the NFL, and their defense is number 2 as well. Bruschi has led the defense so far, as NE absolutely dominated Cleveland's weak offense. The defense just gets better as safety Rodney Harrison returned from his 4 game suspension on Sunday. Brady and Moss have been the best QB/WR combo this season, and will continue that throughout the entire regular season, as well as the postseason.
2. Indianapolis Colts (5-0)- Despite being without key starters, such as Marvin Harrison, and Joseph Addai, the Colts easily beat the Bucs 33-14 on Sunday, and the offense is doing well as always, currently 3rd in the NFL, despite being without their future HOF wideout, Marvin Harrison, for a few weeks. The Indy D, has vastly improved over last year, as well. The D is currently 6th in the NFL (4th in rushing, and 6th in passing D). Like the past five or so years, Indy has dominated NFL teams, and this week they added a 5th win, improving to 5-0, yet again. The Colts are the NFL champions, until someone knocks them off their thrown, and that may not even end up happening this year.
3. Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1)- After a 21-0 win over the Seattle Seahawks, a pretty solid team, it looks like the Steelers from '05 are back, with RB "Fast" Willie Parker leading the offense with 102 rushing yards in the win. The Steelers offense looks alot better than last year, with Ben Roethlisberger throwing less INT's, and Parker running harder. Although Pittsburgh's offense is 24th in the NFL, Pittsburgh's D has been great, and may be the key to the Steelers success. Pittsburgh's D is behind only the Denver Broncos (very surprising).
4. Dallas Cowboys (5-0)- If the Cowboys had a better first half against Buffalo last night, then they could possibly be 3rd on this list, but Romo threw 4 INT's in the first half alone (5 in the entire game), thus, Pittsburgh gets the nod over Dallas. But, Dallas will be a threat against NE this coming Sunday, and may possibly come out with a win, but in order to pull it off, Romo has to be absolutely mistake-free, and the 'Boys D has to be PERFECT. Dallas is 5-0, and deserves to get some recognition, they are a great team. The 'Boys offense is ranked number 2 in the league behind GB, an number 12 in defense).
5. Green Bay Packers (4-1)- With GB, led by the NFL's "Iron Man", Brett Favre, a great leader and QB, GB is on very good shape. GB's only loss thus far has been to the Chicago Bears this past Sunday, which I really thought they should have won. The Packers are first in total offense, but 23rd in defense. GB will win the division, and I think that with the leadership of the veteran Favre, will get far into the playoffs. Some may be surprised at the Packers success based on last year's performance by the Pack, but I am not too surprised, their defense has improved alot, and they can find ways of winning, without even having a great rushing offense (29th in NFL).
