My Search for New Favorite NFL Team (Vol 2.)

by user I am a cpcp

It's now time to look at the middle of the pack in my quest to find a time to replace the Cleveland Quinns. I call them that because when I now think of the Browns I can only think of Brady Quinn. I really don't like the guy that much. So anyway, here are the teams that probably won't win out, but still have a chance.

New England Patriots : It would be nice to be a fan of a team that contends on a yearly basis, but I don't want to cheer for a Michigan quarterback and this also breaks the "bandwagon" qualifier that DNL mentioned. I enjoy watching the Pats, but I can't see myself being a fan.

Cincinnati Bengals : It was mentioned that the Bungles should have been in my "no chance" list, but you have to give the other in-state team a chance. That being said, I can't root for a team that has so many personnel issues. I don't want to have to go to their home games at  the Ohio State Penitentiary.

Houston Texans : While it would be nice to get in on the ground floor with a team (as another commenter mentioned), I don't think I could go to a team that doesn't look like it's trying to win. This team just reeks of crap and it's not drawing me in.

Philadelphia Eagles : The team fit a lot of the things I'm looking for, but I can't stand their fans. (Sorry, Christof) I understand passion for a team, but Philly fans are a little extreme for me.

St. Louis Rams : The Greatest Show on Turf is dead, so there's not a bandwagon issue anymore, but it amazes me how this team has died to the media. I don't know enough about the Rams at this point to like them.

Tennessee Titans : This is another personnel issue team. I don't like how they initially handled the Pac-Man situation. I'm a big Vince Young fan, but there's other things about the team that keeps me away.

San Francisco 49ers :  The 9ers were on my  third list originally, but I don't know. The way they've been throwing money around lately, they seem to be on their way to being the Yankees of the NFL.

Jacksonville Jaguars : The Jags are the team I followed the years the Browns didn't exsist. So it somewhat makes sense to go back there, but I don't know.

Indianapolis Colts : If the Colts hadn't won a Super Bowl last year, this whole process would have been a cake walk. The Colts have long been my second favorite team. Manning and Harrison are two of my top five favorite players. They just drafted a handful of Buckeyes.... to go with the few they already have. But alas... Even though the Colts aren't getting a lot of bandwagon jumpers (they are still in Indiana) I can't start following a team that just won it all.

That leaves seven teams under major consideration. Analysis on those teams to come in the next week.

I think you should re-reconsider the 49ers. They are in a different conference and division, they've got young talent on the upswing, and they've got a solid franchise history. They aren't throwing money around too much (and certainly not as poorly as my 'Skins)!

Good points, these teams aren't necessarily out so I'll keep that in mind.

I agree. I think the 49ers are a good pick -- they're bad now but could be really good soon, and the resurrection angle is awesome.

I'm no 49er fan, but I also disagree with your assessment--there is no 'Yankees of the NFL'. Rules won't allow it.

Although I'm a BEARS LIFER, My backup team (we've discussed this) is the Bengals because my wife is from 'Nati and my father in law has season tickets. They need to seriously do something about their lawless squad, but I'm a HUGE fan of Palmer and Ocho Cinco. How can such character guys with such talent be dealt such a bad hand when it comes to teamates?? I think Marvin Lewis needs to stop making excuses, stop playing the race card and deal with the quagmire he's enabled. Or get lost. What a schmuck! IF he wants to coach a team, he's gonna need one to coach, right???

The fact that the ownership has let this go this far is a major problem for me. They should recognize the chances they have with a QB like Palmer and put their foot down. Lewis could be doing more, but the ownership and FO should be doing something.

I wouldn't advise anyone to begin rooting for the Rams until someone gets the coaching staff to sign a binding agreement -- Steven Jackson gets a minimum of 25 touches or we shoot your dog.

If you want to make it scarier, you could say give him 25 touches or you'll give his dog to Michael Vick.

I'm secretly rooting for you becoming a Bengals fan so you can join me in being one of those weirdos who somehow managed to be on the Cleveland side of things in baseball and the Cincinnati side of things in football.

If you wanna root for a winning team, wait until after the superbowl. I think it was good of you to root for the Browns cuz you're from Ohio (at least I think you are). I STILL root for the Celtics (sad huh?). But I'm loyal to my home teams, but that's just the way I am. I don't really follow football that much, but I like to play a lot of it. Whenever I watch an Pats game, I root for the Pats cuz they're my home team. I respect every single team and athlete and coach for what they do on and off the field for us. I like certain players on a team, but I'm not a bandwagon. In my opinion, like the baseball song goes: Root root for the home team...

This isn't about a winning team. I've been the fan of a losing team for a long time, I'm used to it. It's about getting away from Brady Quinn.

Romiezzo, give up the fight for him to stay a Browns fan. We all argued this in Part 1. It's no use trying to convince him now. With "part 2" written up and "part 3" coming next week, we can only hope he picks the team we as individuals root for. That said, COWBOYS!!!

Well, in THAT case, I'll tell him to pick either the team where his favorite players are in, or one of em, or you can just be a bandwagoner and be a Colts fan...for now.

YES! Cowboys are still in it! C'mon you gotta pick them. They're one safety and one cornerback away from winning it all. Who says champion like the Dallas Cowboys? Seriously... 5 Super Bowl wins in 8 appearances. You won't be depressed for long instinces with this team. They manage to become major contenders at least twice every decade. C'mon pick the 'Boys. COW-BOYS! COW-BOYS! COW-BOYS!

They're sorta like the yankees of football, except with less winning, a more annoying owner and sucking more often...

It is morally wrong to become a Cowboys fan. Jerry Jones is a git, he absorbs half the tossers from around the league and acts like he is a front office genius just for splashing his cash. Furthermore all that 'America's Team' stuff makes me hurl. Anyone but the Cowboys.

Perhaps, since your a fan of the AFC North/Central, you should go with an NFC North/Central team (meaning the old central included). This way you can avoid interdivisional rivalries and perhaps take an up and comer...with that said...I can see your transgressions in picking anyone besides the bears... As such...if you're not going to pick the eagles...i'd go with the bears...

OK, this should've been posted to Episode 1 of your search, but I don't know how you can't like the Packers. Sure the team is in disarray right now, but I don't see how you would not want to be a fan of a team that you can also own.
