My ArmchairGM Pet Peeves
Alright, so I know someone did one of these about a year ago, but lately I've noticed the same issues crop up...and some new ones, that I think should be mentioned. There seems to be a lot of new folks around (Welcome and sorry I may come off as such an ass) and I just needed for air my issues. Most of these are article related, however, there are a few others. Everyone feel free to also state your pet peeves as well. I'm not taking the holier than thou approach, I'm definitely guilty of some of these, but on the whole, I try to avoid them. Please don't take this as any type of attack, towards anyone, but constructive criticism overall.
1) "Duplicate" Articles Lately, I've noticed a lot of duplicate articles about news and just a few sentences. Its not that I have a problem with the news quality or info about the article, but that a few people always feel the urge to post the same info and usually one sits on "New Articles" side and the other gets promoted, for obvious reason. If you see an article that has the exact same topic as yours without further info, spin, whatever, I won't read it...
2) Short Articles Length has always been a point of contention with me. I particuarly hate articles that are only a few sentences in length (Caption Contests and the like, please disregard). If your going to put one up, please at least try to put some effort into actually writing something. We're all here to learn, enjoy, have fun, discuss sports, etc, but a 2 line article entitled "Delgado Sucks" stating that he does, indeed, suck and needs to be benched isn't really much of an article. I know, that's the beauty of the voting system, but it kind of ruins the spirit of the site. Just my opinion...
3) Discussion Articles Along the same lines as short articles. If your going to write a sentence or 2 about something (Boy the refs in that cavs game last night were terrible or should we eliminate the DH?) and ask for discussion, try the lockerroom. That's what its for and its a good place to have a long discussion.
4) Blog Teasers I think a lot of you have gotten this message or agree with me. But if you have a blog and want to post stuff here...that's great, this site is almost like a hub for you folks and gets a decent amount of exposure...but for those of you (few and far between, now, i think) that post a 1 or 2 line teaser and then post "read more at mycrappyblog.com," please stop. Its one thing to post a whole "post" and then add the teaser, but not a line or two...because when at work I can only access a few blogs and I'm usually unwilling to go there...(LastRow does this very well).
5) Negative Comments This is something that bugs me a lot, and we've all done it but...If you're going to give someone a negative, for whatever reason, at least give them the dignity of telling them why they're wrong. I'm a blowhard idiot and I probably haven't gotten as many "-" as I should but when you give me one and just leave it...that's just annoying...
This isn't my site or my rules or anything, by any means, just my pet peeves...that's all...some of you probably agree and others don't...that's fine. Infact, This was a previous lockerroom discussion by ,I think, Roblefko, I hope he doesn't take it personally.
