My 2007 Heisman Ballot

1. Tim Tebow - In most years, Tebow would already have two strikes against him due to the fact that he's a sophomore and his team is not in the national title hunt. Despite these "glaring" holes, Tebow's numbers are mind-boggling with 51 total touchdowns (29 passing and 22 rushing) and nearly 4,000 total yards (3132 passing and 838 rushing). His yardage and touchdowns aren't the only things that separate him from the pack. While other Heisman candidates, notably Darren McFadden, have been inconsistent this season, Tebow has played at a high level all year long. There is not one game in which the sophomore quarterback did not play up to his potential. The Heisman is to be awarded to the nation's "most outstanding player," and was there anybody more outstanding than Tebow.

2. Darren McFadden - McFadden is likely the most talented player in all of college football. In big games against LSU and South Carolina, the Arkansas tailback ran for a bunch of yards and scored many touchdowns (throwing, rushing, and receiving). However, the Razorbacks have struggled at times this year, and in some games McFadden appeared to be someplace else. Therefore I have McFadden at number two, but it was stilla great season with over 1,700 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.

3. Kevan Smith - It still amazes me that most college football fans haven't even heard of UCF's Kevan Smith. Yes, he does play in a smaller conference, but the Central Florida tailback has put up absolutely ridiculous numbers this season. He led the nation in rushing attempts (415), rushing yards (2,448) and rushing touchdowns (29). Obviously, he did not face the same level of competition as some of the top players but 2,448 yards is 2,448 yards. In the biggest game of the season against Texas, Smith ran for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

4. Colt Brennan - It would seem that the quarterback on the nation's lone undefeated team would be getting a lot of love from the national media but such is not the case for Brennan. This season, the Hawaii quarterback became the NCAA's all-time leading touchdown passer when he passed Ty Detmer. While Hawaii, did not play the toughest competition Brennan still had an outstanding season while leading the Warriors to an undefeated regular season.

5. Chase Daniel - Daniel had his Missouri Tigers in the hunt for the national championship all season long, and one week ago Mizzou was even atop the BCS. He's been an extremely efficient and effective passer with nearly 4,000 yards, 33 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, and a completion percentage that was over 70%. Not too shabby.

Voting a sophomore the Heisman is like voting a closer into the Hall of Fame. Some may deserve it but no one wants to admit it. Personally, I'm tired of players from smaller schools getting the shaft because they're not on TV as much or because they don't play a primo schedule. Hawaii had some good wins on the road nonetheless, and Colt Brennan touched the ball on 80% of every offensive play. 11-0 is 11-0. So he's my in my heart pick, but I think McFadden will win it.

I agree, my vote would be for Brennen, but it seems Tebow has it.
