Much Needed Offense Leads Phills Over Tribe 9-6

by user Bnew

In a game where Ryan Howard had three hits, a solo home run and four RBI's the Philadelphia Phillies got a win largely in part to their star power hitter. Kyle Kendrick also picked up the first win of his career. Tonight the Phillies start Jon Lieber, who had a rough outing his last time out allowing six runs in five innings in a loss versus the Detroit Tigers. Meanwhile the Indians will stat their ace C. C. Sabathia who will be looking for his tenth win on the season. With this win, the Phillies can move to within 2 games of the New York Mets, and a half game out of 2nd in the NL East.

Bnew, nice to see you here, but... One of my pet peeves is short articles. Consider it constructive criticism, but would you mind making your articles a few paragraphs long...i know you probably just wanna start some debate, but some more substance would be nice...

i welcome any form of criticism, i couldn't really think of how i could expound last night's game any farther, phills lead the game the entire night, Ryan Howard showed why he's one of the league's best, Kendrick picked up his first win, not much else happened really.

I understand...that's where the writing is required though... The pen almost blew it (madson looked bad)...Mesa made a crucial out and was greeted with boos...howard did hit a crucial double in the 9th...there's lots of stuff to expound on...

Also, you need to double check some of your facts. The Phils are 2 games back of the Mets.

Game recaps are typically difficult to do if you are simply restating the game. They either force you to rehash every detail of balls and strikes (which I dont wnat to read). The other option is to make sure you have a strong opinion about something that happened in the game.

I used to do them by series...that seemed to be more effective...you could preview pitching matchups and stuff

Definitly true its much easier that way. Plus with the way baseball is, its too many damn reports to go game by game. I know because I thumb through them all day from The Sports Network and curse them for all extra crap the make me read for having a recap of every game.

I am a Braves fan but am getting feeling Phillies are team to beat. Chase Utley is by far the best second baseman in NL.

Not that I want the Braves to lose but they are not playing like a winning team. When Bobby Cox left Carlyle in game after trailing 7-0 I was shocked. I have been a Braves fan since 1978 about the time they had the Rod Gilbreath-Jerry Royster double play combination and Dale Murphy was catching and couldn't make the throw from catcher to pitcher. Saving bullpen does not make sense when you are that far behind. It is like telling the players and fans the manager has given up on winning the game.
