Born on March 2, 1913 in Atherton, Missouri, Mort Cooper (Morton Cecil Cooper) played for the St. Louis Cardinals, Boston Braves, New York Giants and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 11 year career. Cooper broke into the bigs on September 14, 1938 with the St. Louis Cardinals, and put up a 3.25 ERA in 210.2 innings pitched in 1939, his rookie year.

Most people believe that Mort Cooper's best season was 1942, when he posted a 1.78 ERA, won 22 games and struck out 152 batters.
