In the late game of the CFL night, the defenses held sway for three quarters of the game. It was only the kickers that could score and sparingly at that. At the end of the first quarter, the score was tied at zero.

Just 40 seconds into the second quarter, the Edmonton Eskimos kicker, Sean Fleming, scored the first points of the game, a 30-yard field goal. Two minutes later, the Montreal Alouettes kicker, Damon Duval, answered with his own 37-yard field goal. A bit later, Duval missed a 44-yard field goal, but was awarded a single. At the half, Montreal 4 - Edmonton 3.

In the third quarter, the kickers traded field goals. First, a 33-yard field goal from Duval. Followed, two minutes later, by a Fleming 47-yard field goal. So, at the end of the third, Montreal 7 - Edmonton 6.

But, the lid finally came off of the defensive battle.

The fourth quarter started off early with a major being scored. Edmonton's Ricky Ray threw a 42-yard pass that connected with Jason Tucker that got the Eskimos deep into Montreal territory. The drive was capped by a 13-yard pass for a touchdown to Mike Maurer.

On the following series, Montreal stormed back 77 yards to score on their own 13-yard play. Although, this was from Alouettes RB Robert Edwards.

With five minutes left in the game, the Als had another good looking drive moving. They had a third-and-one from the Edmonton 43. The Als decided to go for it and were stopped. This marks the first time this season that the Alouettes have turned the ball over on downs.

However, the Eskimos could do nothing with the ball and only managed to move the ball to their midfield. The ensuing punt was poor and only netted 17 yards.

Montreal took over on their own 44. A couple of Anthony Calvillo completions later and a defensive penalty, Edwards scored again from 5 yards out.

Final stat leaders Montreal. QB Anthony Calvillo was 25 of 38 for 276 yards with 0 touchdowns and 0 picks. RB Robert Edwards had 17 rushes for 99 yards and 2 touchdowns. WR Kerry Watkins had 5 receptions for 65 yards and 0 touchdowns. K Damon Duval was 2/4 on field goals and 2/2 on extra points.

Final stat leaders Edmonton. QB Ricky Ray 29 of 43 for 266 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. RB Troy Davis 5 rushes for 49 yards. SB Mookie Mitchell had 10 receptions for 78 yards. K Sean Fleming went 2/3 on field goals and 1/1 on extra points.
