Born on February 12, 1918 in Hartford, Connecticut, Monk Dubiel (Walter John Dubiel) played for the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago Cubs over the course of his 7 year career. Dubiel broke into the bigs on April 19, 1944 with the New York Yankees, and put up a 3.38 ERA in 232 innings pitched in 1944, his rookie year.
Most people believe that Monk Dubiel's best season was 1944, when he posted a 3.38 ERA, won 13 games and struck out 79 batters.
