Monk Cline (John P. Cline) was born on March 3, 1858 in Louisville, Kentucky. He made his Major League debut on July 4, 1882 for the Baltimore Orioles. In 1882, his rookie year, he hit .221 with 0 home runs and 0 RBI. Cline played for the Baltimore Orioles, Louisville Colonels and Kansas City Cowboys over the course of his 5 year career.
There is some disagreement on what was Monk Cline's most productive season. Some believe that it was 1884, when he hit for a .290 average. However, others believe that it was 1888, when he stole 29 bases.
