My Hawks got smoked. I am sad, but you know what…it is week 5. The season isn’t over. But as bad as they were: there were some GREAT performances from this weekend, both by teams and certain players. Here is my take on a few of them.
Surprise of the weekend:
I guess this isn’t a surprise if you looked at the beginning of the season and said: “Hey, they Bears are good.” But they aren’t. They are bad, which is why this was a surprise to me.
The Green Bay Defense actually had better numbers then the Bears, and yet, the Bears were able to pull out the win:
GB D: 203 yards passing allowed; 82 yards rushing allowed; 2 Sacks; 1 INT
CHI D: 318 yards passing allowed; 121 yards rushing allowed; 1 Sack; 2 INT; 3 Fumble Recoveries.
Chicago won the turnover battle and it shows.
Like many have said: "the team with the least turnovers wins"
In the “not-so-much-an-upset-as-it-is-surprising” category:
Only surprising because of how close it was. I was really expecting Houston to come out and show it to Miami, but Miami stuck in there.
P.S. Travis Johnson you are pathetic. Just wanted to let you know that.
The boys are back. Or are they? Michael Turner had 147 yards rushing (Seahawks…make it happen) averaging 14.7 per carry. LT was shut down again, but was able to make it happen as a receiver with 73 yards on 3 catches. That just goes to prove that he will hurt you.
I think it is good for Morale, but the Chargers demolished a team that can’t get a break (unless it is a fibula *rimshot*) and they did so with only 1 sack, 1 INT and 2 Fumble Recoveries. I say only because they allowed 224 yards through the air and 72 on the ground. It feels as if the score should have been a LOT higher.
We knew that TB would lose. We knew it would be massive destruction. But this is the surprise:
Kenton Keith : 28 carries, 121 yards and 2 TDs. This guy was a back for the Saskatchewan Roughriders from 2003 to 2006. Now he is backing up Addai in Indy and showed WHY they Colts picked him up. The guy is a great back up and will continue to show that as a change-of-pace back.
I tip my hat to you.
And my biggest disappointment of the weekend:
I have already promised myself that I will NOT blabber about the loss that the Steelers dealt the Hawks ( Pittsburgh 21, Seattle 0), so I will search....the other games…let’s see…
Fine…there is no other Disappointment.
The Steelers handed it to Seattle. But I am looking at it this way: The defense can only do so much.
The Steelers were missing Troy Polomalu, Casey Hampton and Hines Ward (Santonio Holmes came up lame in pre-game) and yet they showed the Seahawks what smash mouth football was. The Defense was shutting down the pass all day and started to crush the run game.
People are saying the Seahawks are washed up, that they are worse than they were in 2005, but let’s look at a few things. 1) Hasselbeck had all day to throw, but there was never an opening. 2) The Steelers were clued in when the run was happening and were able to get passed the young line. 3) The Steelers led the Time of Possession battle 40:45 to 19:15. NO Defense can stay on the field for that long without getting tired. The Offense was shut down and it made the Hawks D stay on the field.
They will need to win the next 2 weeks to still be in the hunt for the Division, but will need to prove to us all that they can compete.
