What a weekend of Football!!!
This is why I love the game: everything can go as the pundits say and yet you can have massive upsets that no one sees coming.
For example:
New Orleans got CRUSHED by Tampa Bay. Did you see this coming? I didn’t. It’s tough to see this when they were one game away from the Superbowl last year and now are 0-2. And we have all heard it: “It is near impossible for a team to make the playoffs after starting 0-2”. What happened to them? They were so powerful last year and now they are scraping themselves off of the floor.
Cincinnati loses a shoot out to CLEVELAND???? Where over 1000 yards were amassed? Over 700 through the air?!?!?
Carolina loses to Houston? (This one just goes to show that without Steve Smith this team is nothing. Sad, but true)
In the “not-so-much-an-upset-as-it-is-surprising” category :
Detroit beat Minnesota
Denver wins by only 3 over Oakland at the last minute...again.
Green Bay 35…NY Giant 13
New England dropped the hammer on San Diego (insert spy-gate joke here)
Indy ALMOST loses to Tennessee
And my biggest disappointment of the weekend (cause I am a homer):
Seahawks Lose to Arizona.
Okay, Seahawks fans get down off the ledge. They looked terrible, but it isn’t over. Don’t look at the fumble as what caused the loss. [1]
It didn’t. The first half of the game was sickening. They couldn’t get any pressure on Leinart who was taking snaps from an undrafted rookie. This line shouldn’t have held the Seahawks at bay after what they did against Tampa Bay against a MUCH better line.
They deserved to lose this one. They had a running back who was dancing around and a defense that couldn’t get its head in the game until the second half.
Also…they won several games this way (including 4 by last second field goal) last season. The luck doesn’t keep coming.
But Cardinals fans, don’t anoint your team just yet. They still are not very good. You won…but it was ugly. You got lucky. But a win-is-a-win-is-a-win.
My record against the spread: 6/15 with Philly to win tonight. (PHI -6.5)
