In his first outing after striking out a club record 17 batters, Johan Santana had a rough first inning, giving up three runs, on three hits, and two home runs. However, the Twins offense would not be denied, and made another late inning surge, en rout to a 7-4 victory over the Baltimore Orioles last night in Oriole Park.

Johan Santana struggled a bit in the first inning, allowing three runs, on three hits, and two home runs. Santana then settled down to pitch six more innings, allowing a total of four runs, on eight hits, striking out seven, and allotting only one walk for the evening. The Twins then used relievers Carmon Cali and Pat Neshek in the eighth inning, and closer Joe Nathan to shut the door in the ninth. The Twins bull pen totally shut down the Orioles offense with a three inning no hit out put.

The bulk of Baltimore's runs came in the first inning, off a two-run home run from short stop Miguel Tejada, and a solo home run from right fielder Nick Markakis. The early 3-0 lead did not look good for the Twins. Then in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Orioles would strike one more time. The lead off hitter Corey Patterson would take Johan deep to right field, for the third home run of the evening, putting the Orioles ahead 4-0.

Then here come the Twins. In the top of the seventh inning, Justin Morneau would lead off with his first home run in 108 at bats, sending one over the right field wall. This would be Justin's 29th home run of the year, putting him back in second place of the home run leaders. Michael Cuddyer would then single to center field, and Jason Kubel would hit himself a two-run home run over the center field wall, giving the Twins a three-run seventh inning.

The eighth inning would hold more for the Twins offense, as the collected another two-runs, taking their first and only lead of the game 5-4. American League MVP Justin Morneau would double to center field, and Michael Cuddyer would single to right field, advancing Morneau to third. Jason Kubel's sacrifice fly would score Morneau. Then Jason Tyner, The Texas Tornado, would hit a line drive double to center field, advancing Cuddyer to third. Jamie Walker would intentionally walk Mike Redmond, and pitch to Alexi Casilla. Casilla would hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score Cuddyer from third.

In the top of the ninth inning, Torii Hunter would hit his 25th home run of the year, with a two-run home run to left field, scoring Joe Mauer. Mauer had a lead off double, which would be his 24th of the season. The home run gave the Twins a 7-4 lead and eventual victory. This is the Twins third win in a row, and they have won 7 of their last 10 games.

Minnesota and Baltimore will play game three tonight in a 6:10pm start at Camden Yards. The "young gun" Matt Garza will be on the mound for the Twins, and the Orioles will counter with Radhames Liz, who is making his Major League debut. Originally Brian Burres was thought to be the starter, but Manager Dave Trembley decided to go with the rookie Liz. Hopefully the Twins can get an early lead in this game to win the series tonight.

GO TWINS!!!!!
