In game two of the Twin-bil, Twins starter Scott Baker was so very dominant. Baker, who has pitched very well lately, went into the ninth inning, pitching a perfect game. Baker then walked the lead off batter, catcher John Buck, which broke up perfect game, and a one out single to pinch hitter Mike Sweeney, that broke up the no hitter, by hitting a line drive to center fielder Torii Hunter.

This is by far Baker's best season in the big leagues. Scott has been with the Twins for three years, and in their Minor League programs since 2003. Baker made his Major League debut in 2005, with this being his longest stint with the Twins since then. Baker has done exceptionally well in the month of August, with a record of 3-2, and an era at 2.59. Baker had six starts this month, earning a decision in all but one game in Seattle, on August 15. Minnesota won that game 6-1.

Last night, Baker pitched nine innings, allowing no runs, one hit, one walk, and matched a career high nine strike outs for one game.

Minnesota's offense was better in game two, getting 10 hits, scoring 5 runs, stranding eight base runners of which only three were in scoring position. The Twins also hit into no double plays, and scored two runs with two outs in the inning. This is something that has plagued the Twins all season long. How do we score runs with two outs, or getting key hits with runners in scoring position. There has been a sight improvement with the Twins offense in those situations in August, but not enough of an improvement for them to sustain a winning streak for any amount of time.

In the second game last night, although Minnesota only scored five runs, and left eight base runners, only three base runners were in scoring position. Twins offense has hit the ball real well lately, but just can't get the base runners around to score enough. Minnesota has also hit into 117 double plays, and one triple play this season. Offense like that, is what has hurt Minnesota's chances of making the playoffs.

The Twins and Royals will play game three of the four game set today at 11:10am. Carlos Silva will pitch for Minnesota, while Brandon Duckworth goes for the Royals. Silva will be looking to rebound from his terrible outing against the Indians last week.
