A mere half hour after last night's game - suspended by rain in the 10th - was resumed and finished, Sergio Mitre threw the first pitch for the Florida Marlins against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Crew went on to win 5-2, and take their second in a row (and of the night) from Florida.
The Fish got offense in the form of two solo home runs from Miguel Cabrera and Joe Borchard (who K'd in five of his other 8 AB's in the series - see wrap-up), but it wasn't enough for the Brewers offense, which came out with a bang right away. Milwaukee got a home run and a triple from Rickie Weeks, and effective hitting combined with another great Turnbow/Cordero outing sealed it at 5-2.
Brewers starter Dave Bush was anxious to go again, after a horrible first inning last week against the Cubs in which he gave up six runs on six hits, recording only one out. He followed that inning with five solid, two-hit innings. Tonight he was solid from start to finish, only allowing one run - the Cabrera homer.
The Brewers climb to 5-4 and take two straight wins and another series victory into the off day. Dave Bush (1-1, 5.25) gets the win and Francisco Cordero (0.00, 3) gets the save. The Marlins also find themselves at 5-4, but headed in the wrong direction. Sergio Mitre (0-2, 4.09) gets the loss.
