The Milwaukee Brewers' first foray into extra innings of the 2007 campaign was, to say the least, interesting. The game started at 6:05 p.m. on April 10, and ended with a 13-inning, 3-2 victory over the Florida Marlins at about 6:50 p.m. on April 11.
The game suffered through three rain delays before it was finally suspended at the end of the 10th inning tied at 2 late Tuesday night. Under the new rule, the game was resumed Wednesday night instead of being officially declared a tie. So, at 6:05 p.m. April 11, the game resumed at the beginning of the 11th inning. In the top of the 13th, Prince Fielder, who reached base in each of his seven plate appearances (4-4, 3 BB), drove in Rickie Weeks to make it 3-2. Francisco Cordero finished the inning for the save and the game was finally over.
Most importantly, the Crew finally won a game against the Marlins, after losing nine straight - including seven games of a 10-game losing streak late last year. The Brewers used every pitcher in their bullpen and every position player in the dugout.
Milwaukee evens out at 4-4. Reliever Elmer Dessens (1-0, 3.00) gets the win and Francisco Cordero (0.00, 2) gets his second save. Florida finds themselves at 5-3. Renyel Pinto (0-1, 4.50) gets the loss.
The rubber game, originally scheduled for 6:05, begins 30 minutes after the end of this game. Dave Bush takes the mound for Milwaukee against Sergio Mitre for the Fish.
