Milledge and Pelfrey Will Stay

9
Vote

According to the New York Daily News: "Mets insiders insisted yesterday that the team's core prospects, including Lastings Milledge, won't be dealt under any circumstances - not even to obtain Barry Zito or Dontrelle Willis if they were made available."

The article also noted that the "Mets brass will closely monitor 2005 first-round pick Mike Pelfrey' when he takes the mound tonight at Double-A Binghamton. While team officials don't want to rush Pelfrey, an insider suggested team brass will seriously consider promoting him if he has a positive outing."

I thought this was a great point by Mark Allen Haverty of Sporting News:

A lifelong Met fan, Professor Lichtman said something to me about the Mets that put the trading of Scott Kazmir in a very different light. As he put it bluntly, trading Kazmir might have been the best thing the Mets could have done for their system.

We lost a few of you there, didn't we?

He elaborated by saying that the Kazmir trade was so catastrophically bad that the pressure on the Mets to never make another trade like that one has been magnified to a great degree.

Pelfrey's numbers at AA are not that good. http://www.m...amp;sid=milb If they don't get what they need from Maine/Lima/Gonzalez and need to call someone up from AA Soler is the better choice. He has pitched on the international stage, is older and more experienced, and a poor outing will not set him back the same ti would Pelfrey.

I think Soler is a better choice. Minor league numbers are deceiving. Pelfrey could be working on a pitch . . . who knows . . .

My point was that Pelfrey has limited professional experience, mostly At the A level. He needs a lot more AA starts before he is considered a real option.

Pelfrey isn't tradable until next January, by rule.
